Victoria practices in the area of local government, governance and regulatory law

Victoria has extensive experience working in private practice in Hobart. Prior to joining Simmons Wolfhagen in our Launceston office, Victoria worked in the local government legal sector.

Victoria advises Councils about governance and public law matters, including:

  • local government regulatory framework;
  • council decision-making processes to protect against challenges;
  • meeting procedures and processes;
  • ethical obligations, including conflicts of interest and Code of Conduct framework;
  • applications pursuant to the Right to Information Act 2009;
  • privacy protections pursuant to the Personal Information Protection Act;
  • the formation and certification of Council by-laws and policies;
  • development and review of policies and procedures; and
  • the interplay between Councils’ obligations as the PCBU under the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 and the functions of General Managers and Councillors under the Local Government Act 1993, with a particular focus on psychosocial risks.
