Nathan Street is a Director of Simmons Wolfhagen and leads the firm’s Local Government, Planning and Environment team. He advises Councils, developers, businesses and landowners on complex planning, environmental, regulatory and governance matters throughout Tasmania.
Nathan is recognised for his practical and strategic advice in planning and local government law, regularly appearing before the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and advising on development applications, planning scheme interpretation, planning scheme amendments, Part 5 Agreements, compulsory acquisition, regulatory enforcement, roads and local government governance matters. He also advises on environmental compliance, building and plumbing enforcement, council by-laws, right to information applications and a range of statutory decision-making processes.
Prior to joining Simmons Wolfhagen, Nathan gained significant experience in criminal law with the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania and later worked in the United Kingdom as a prosecution lawyer for local government. In that role, he advised on and prosecuted a broad range of regulatory matters, including planning enforcement, food safety, dog control, fraud, intellectual property infringements and environmental nuisance offences. He regularly prepared and conducted matters before courts throughout London and south-east England.
Nathan is known for delivering clear, practical focused advice on difficult statutory and regulatory issues. He works closely with councils, government bodies and private sector clients to navigate complex legislative frameworks, manage risk and achieve practical outcomes.
